The Reveal project is a 400 square feet micro-apartment that maximizes space and functionality for a family of three.
The clients chose to give the back bedroom to their child, leaving just over 250 square feet for the main bedroom, living room, dining room, and kitchen.
The design mediates the diverse routines of each family member, compact private areas are provided for each individual with an expandable living room for family gatherings.
Millwork panels and convertible furniture are deployed to create extremely efficient, multipurpose spaces. A key component of the design is a large wall panel in the living room that rotates ninety degrees to reveal a parent bedroom suite with a warm oak interior. Within this footprint is also a home office, with a fold-down desk tucked in the corner by the window.
Niches arranged along the walls create a playful rhythm and additional storage. A subtle paint gradient defines the “rooms” and character of each space, darkening as the distance from the windows increases and creating a dramatic contrast with the white marble of the kitchen. Warm oak lined storage niches punctuate the cool finish of the cabinets.
Color changing LED lighting and a moon pendant add whimsical details in the child’s bedroom. A subtle shift of gray paint shades on the walls contrasts with the satin white cabinetry. Oak veneer warms up the bedroom when the wall bed is opened, or a desk is pulled down, or the oversized closet with door shelves opens.
Textured grey tiles in the tiny bathroom contrast with custom teak cabinetry.
